Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus) grabbing a fish from the water. These massive eagles inhabit the seas of northern Japan and eastern Russia. Classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List, there are estimated to be only around 5,000 of them remaining.
In several areas of Hokkaido, local fishermen toss fish scraps to the Sea Eagles in the winter, creating a spectacle for tourists and photographers - and a valuable source of income during the frozen winter months.
