The endangered Blakiston's Fish Owl (Ketupa blakistoni) is the world's largest owl and one of the rarest. Nearly impossible to see in the wild in most of their northern Russian range, but in this location in northern Japan, they come to stocked local streams in the middle of the night to catch their meals. The area is lit with very dim strobe lights, and birders and photographers reserve spaces in the blinds.
